On Friday, December 15th, Abraham Coronado, a former member of the "La Luz del Mundo" church, was sentenced to 150 years in prison for 13 counts of sexual abuse of minors aged between 13 and 15 years. Coronado was a close associate of Naasón Joaquín García, the former leader of the church, and also the brother-in-law of Israel Zamora, a former senator of Morena.
According to statements collected by journalist Mario Alberto from Milenio, Coronado was in charge of the "Eben-ezer" ranch, located in California and owned by La Luz del Mundo. The accusations indicate that the abuses were committed at this ranch, where Coronado used his position and religious beliefs to commit the crimes.
Although Coronado's lawyer tried to postpone the sentencing by claiming that he had also been a victim of sexual abuse, the jury upheld the decision to convict him. After fleeing upon learning of the allegations against him, Coronado was captured in Oklahoma and brought before the court in California.
After several sessions and hearings, it was determined that Abraham Coronado will serve a sentence of 150 years in prison for the crimes of sexual abuse of minors. The case was opened on May 26, 2022, and culminated with the final sentencing on December 15, 2024.
